Ezekiel 16, the prophecy referred to in the previous post, also contains some fascinating statements about the future of Sodom and Gomorrah. God says in verse 53 that he will "restore the fortunes" of "Sodom and her daughters," and verse 55 says that Sodom and her daughters "shall return to their former state."
Combining these statements with those of Jesus in Matt 11:23-24 has led some to speculate that when the people who were incinerated at Sodom and Gomorrah are resurrected at some point in the future, perhaps they will then receive a fuller revelation of the Gospel, and perhaps some will repent and be granted eternal life. This is entirely speculative, but it is something for which we can hope, remembering that God is "patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance" (2 Peter 3:9).
At Church of the Messiah in Xenia, Ohio, we have been following a lectionary that goes through the Pentateuch in three and a half years, with accompanying readings in the prophets, psalms, and New Testament. This blog chronicles things that we have been learning along the way.
