Inheritance is a major theme in the Bible. For the tribes of Israel, inheritance of agricultural land in Canaan is a major issue in the book of Numbers.
Later, an important part of the mission of Paul the apostle was bringing people from the nations into covenant with the God of Israel, so that they would have an inheritance as part of the people of God. Paul recalled that when he was confronted on the road to Damascus by the risen Jesus, Jesus had told him that "I am sending you to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me" (Acts 26:17-18).
Paul took this commission seriously (see for example Acts 20:32). The place of Gentiles among the people of God is a big theme in his epistle to the Ephesians.
In a sermon at Church of the Messiah on September 19, 2026, Kyle Kettering discussed the Christian inheritance. It is our destiny of faithful servants of Jesus to inherit the Kingdom of God (Mt 25:34).
