On July 17, 2021, Rob Wilson gave a sermon on Exodus 26. He started with a look at the big picture of Exodus 19-40, which can viewed as a chiasm. In the middle of this chiasm are
F. Covenant broken -----Exodus 32
F.' Covenant renewed-----Exodus 33-34
Then he focused on the details of Exodus 26. Exodus 26 describes the design of Israel's tabernacle in the wilderness, both the fabrics that made up the walls and ceiling and the frames to which these fabrics were attached.
The tent had four layers, with a layer of fine linen on the inside, covered by a layer of goats' hair, covered by a layer of rams' skins, with an outer layer of dolphn or sea cow skins.
Verses 1-6 describe the inner linen layer of the fabric for the tent, consisting of 10 long strips of cloth. We read in verse 6,
"And you shall make fifty clasps of gold, and couple the curtains one to the other with the clasps, so that the tabernacle may be a single whole."
Rob observed that the Hebrew word used for the coupling together of the strips of linen connoted that the linen strips were joined together as "friends." There is some symbolism here of God bringing disparate groups of people together in a unified whole.
